— WHY APOM
A pioneering initiative to fill the current gap in paediatric healthcare to address what no single specialty can see alone.

A new discipline for the developing airway.

— WHERE IT STARTED

Our work builds on the pioneering research of Dr. Christian Guilleminault and the concept of Collapsed Orofacial Development Syndrome (CODS) — connecting obstructive breathing, recurrent infections, skeletal development, orofacial function, posture and sleep.

These conditions rarely exist in isolation. Yet children are still often moved from one specialist to another, with each problem assessed separately. APOM was created to change that.

“We kept seeing the same child move from one specialist to another — each treating a piece, but no one seeing the whole picture. That gap is what APOM exists to close.”

— Dr. Marisa Santos & Dr. Patrícia Cubells-Ricart, Co-Founders

— OUR MISSION

To build Pediatric Orofacial Medicine as a new discipline for the developing airway.

APOM develops new areas of clinical expertise — Airway ENT, Airway Orthopaedics and Airway Myology — bringing them together within one integrated framework of Pediatric Orofacial Medicine.

Three areas of expertise. One integrated discipline:.

Our mission is to develop the knowledge, techniques and clinical protocols that define this discipline, and to train professionals worldwide to practise within a shared transdisciplinary framework:

Raise awareness of CODS and OSDB, and foster a transdisciplinary approach to early detection and treatment.

Provide quality, evidence-based training to pediatric airway professionals worldwide.

— THE APOM SHIFT

Four shifts. One new way of thinking.

FROM TEETH
TO THE DEVELOPING SKELETON
FROM TONSILS & ADENOIDS
TO NASAL AIRWAY FUNCTION
FROM TONGUE THRUST
TO OROFACIAL FUNCTION & REST POSTURE
— THE APOM DIPLOMA

From knowledge to clinical expertise.

The APOM Diploma is the structured pathway into Pediatric Orofacial Medicine.

It takes professionals from a shared foundation in airway, growth and function through advanced specialization and clinical mentoring — developing not only knowledge, but the clinical reasoning, protocols and skills required to practise within the APOM framework.

Learn. Specialise. Apply. Integrate.
